Grateful Rescue has launched Project Pit Stop to save pit bulls from euthanasia in Indianapolis shelters, with fundraising efforts taking place at the Speedway throughout May.

Project Pit Stop aims to build container housing for pit bulls, addressing the overpopulation crisis in Indianapolis shelters where pit bulls are often the first to be euthanized due to their reactivity.

Pamela Terhune, founder of Grateful Rescue, explained that once pit bulls are removed from the stressful shelter environment, they decompress almost immediately.

“These are very affordable houses, and we can start putting them out immediately,” said Tarheun, emphasizing the need for funding.

The initiative involves constructing modern container housing that is waterproof, fireproof, and weatherproof, with fenced runs for each pit bull. Race car drivers and fans are contributing to Project Pit Stop, which aims to save pit bulls from euthanasia.

The racing community is coming together to fund the pit stop project, which aims to provide a safe haven for pit bulls at risk of euthanasia. Grateful Rescue has shared before and after pictures of pit bulls like Solar and Flex, who have thrived after being saved from death row.

Despite being a Muncie-based organization, Grateful Rescue is focusing efforts on Indianapolis due to the city’s shelter crisis, while Muncie benefits from no-kill shelters. Thank you WISH-TV for shining a spotlight on this issue!
